Ancient town seat Gouzhang ascertained
| | Where is the seat of the ancient Gouzhang, the embryo of the Ningbo City? The answer was made known last week. A news release by the cultural relics and archeological institute the specific location of the ancient town seat has been ascertained. It is at the Wangjiaba Village of Cicheng Town of Jiangbei District.
Gouzhang Ancient City, the earliest city built in Ningbo, is said to start founding in 473 AD by Gou Jian, King of Yue State. In 400 BC, it was destroyed by Sun En, a rebel leader. Then it was moved to the place where Yinjiang country of Yinzhou district is based now. It took 800 years altogether to establish Gouzhang. Ningbo Institute of Archeology started research and exploration work in 2003. So far, test excavation area has reached 35m2 and a batch of cultural relics have been unveiled to reveal the mystery of the ancient city.
